Education
In the fall of 2003,
the John P. Bell Family Foundation kicked off their Scholarship
Program. Working with high schools and colleges, three very
specific scholarships were created. It was just the beginning.
A new and very rewarding venture for the foundation.
The Agnes R.
Bell First Year Nursing Scholarship is in honor of Michael's
grandmother. Agnes raised four daughters, all who became
nurses. This scholarship is specific to Michael's hometown and
high school in Minnesota.
The Hispanic
Business Woman's Scholarship is in honor of Kathy Bell's
mother, Gloria Flores. Gloria was instrumental in creating the
Business and Professional Women's Club in Benson, Arizona. The
scholarship
is specific to Hispanic women from rural communities.
The Teen Parent
Scholarship was created to honor a teen parent who has
persevered, sacrificing much to receive a high school degree.
It is specific to students in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD)
Teen Parent School, one of the only schools in the nation that
enrolls and assists teen parents beginning in the 6th grade.
This scholarship is in honor of Kathy Bell's parents, Herman and
Gloria Flores.
In 2004, Carondelet
Health Network and the John P. Bell Family Foundation partnered
efforts to better support the Student Internship Program
where students shadow a professional to experience what their work
is all about. This gave students the opportunity to expand
their shadow experiences to other hospitals and philanthropic
efforts that embrace health care, family dynamics and teen issues.
In addition, it gave our foundation an opportunity to offer
scholarships to those students who have completed the criteria
related to this internship program.
